Agility with Lhasa Apso

Thanks to it’s body structure and personality the Lhasa apso as a breed suits well for agility training. Not even the coat – characteristic to the breed – is a hinderance. Of course, while out on the sand field, the coat is prone to get dirty. The coat must be well taken care of on a regular basis to keep it clean and healthy.

In the Linnanherran kennel activities with the Apsos include dog shows and in the summer also agility.
Both of my dogs are very vigorous and well behaved by nature, which is advantageous for the aforementioned activities. I go training with my dogs twice a week at the TuuKK agility center in Tuusula. We’ve been having fun with the hobby for six years now. It’s very rewarding to co-operate with your dog on the ring. It’s also a pleasure to see the dogs enjoying themselves. That’s why we are always eagerly anticipating the next training day.

Dog agility is a popular form of hobby and it’s unfortunate that it’s not possible to find a place for everyone willing to practise. Many associates tend to arrange a qualification test for members of the basic course. This is used to estimate the co-operation between the dog and the handler and their motivation. The dog’s personality and how well it gets along with other dogs must also be taken notice of.

Agility is good and even therapeutic counterbalance to dog shows. It’s also the best way to keep the dog’s constitution and muscles up. Furthermore, it’s also good exercise for the owner.

I readily recommend this hobby to owners of short- and longhaired dogs alike.
